Remember that old phrase “a fate worse than death”?
Well, it seems that still in our world today many people would equate that with being gay.
- Why is gay the worst thing a parent could hear their child “became”?
- Why is gay the “worst sin“?
- Why is gay the “plague” that so many States within our United States of America assemble together to protest and protect their constitutions from being altered to include rights for gay couples? Nothing seems to rally people out of their apathy faster and loosen their purse strings more than same-sex marriage in their state.

- Why is gay something that makes people, who once shared fellowship, nauseated–and compel friends to sever ties?
- Why is being gay characterized in America as worse than domestic violence, rape, child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, tax evasion, straight “Christian” married people having multiple internet liaisons … (the list could go on)?
- Why is being gay literally a fate worse than death for so many teens that they attempt taking their own lives?
What is it about being gay that is so threatening, so shame inducing, so divisive?

And don’t simply say to me “because the Bible says so.” That won’t cut it for this girl anymore. I’ve read some really well written thoughts on the Bible and Homosexuality.
I am talking about something different. Something that seems so ingrained in our American culture… that being gay is still the reason that parents reject their children, peers commit hate crimes, and State (and Federal) governments actively and fiercely prohibit protections and rights for couples who are gay.
I just don’t understand. Is there any chance that people can wake up and open up?

Good question. I’d like to ask you the very same question! From a “straight” point-of-view, why can’t homosexuals equally wake up? Why do you keep thinking that your life styles need to be recognized, accepted and legalized?
As a person or human being, you are already enjoying all the rights afforded each and everyone of us. Yet, when it comes to unnatural acts, don’t expect to be hugged and kissed and accepted. Your ways are your own and God alone will deal with you on the day of judgment.
Imagine alcoholics demanding similar rights! Or drug addicts or child-molesters or whatever you may think of? What would happen to our society? It will return to the dark ages and to terror and violence. We will become small enclaves of armies fighting for their rights!
What gays homosexuals do is unnatural and the argument presented on the link within your post is ludicrous! God’s message to mankind is for ANYWHERE and ANYTIME. Otherwise, the message(s) can and should be rejected since we live in different times! A link is provided to this “natural” argument below.
Likewise, God did not address smoking, drug dealing or legalized prostitution in the Bible. God gave us the big picture from which we choose to follow or to reject. If we follow His commands, we will enjoy success and a Heavenly and eternal life. If we reject the truth, then we should suffer the consequences. With all that, God kept the door open: He asked us to walk towards Him so that He may run towards us! His Mercy is abundant for those who revert to Him.
I remember a discussion once with a homosexual co-worker. I asked how he became a homosexual. His response was amazing! He said he used to be normal (his words) and dated girls and all. At 14, he noticed that he would get aroused by pictures of half-naked men or even models in magazines. He began exploring and decided to “try it out.” He liked it and chose to be homosexual!
More amazing is the way homosexuals act! Why do some of the men act feminine or speak with a certain tone of voice? Or why do the “men” women dress more masculine or choose unfeminine clothing?
If any of your answers would include “genetics” the answer is refuted by science and their findings! The reference to animals and or nature is equally refuted. Here’s one example:
Interpersonal relations which are truly human cannot be reduced to physical sensations of pleasure or pain. [...]

Sigh.
Hi Bon… if I think I catch what you are expressing with that {sigh}… that is why I haven’t commented yet either. I am still {sigh}ing at ATW’s comment.
This video is a ray of hope though…

Oh, and Bon… just read your excellent and thorough post in retort to the long comment above. Thank you for the eloquence and time it took to do that… I didn’t get that far… and you were the right lady for the job!
PS- love the little “DOH” stick guy!
ATW- Do you beat your kids for mouthing off? Do you KILL your kids for mouthing off? Do you only worship “GOD” on Sunday, and not do any work? Do you honestly believe that your deity is allPknowing? And finally, what is the matter with you? Read the bible, follow its EVERY rule, and then tell me that I am going to “hell” because I am evil and wrong and sick. Then you have the right to say what is right and wrong. I think YOU are sick. And personally, I think Jesus Christ and I would be the best of friends. Regardless of the fact that I am gay and LEGALLY MARRIED.
Wow. This post, and the replies to it, all make me sad. How did we ever get to a place where our discussions are couched in trying to prove ourselves right – whatever our stance – with reference to the bible?
D’you know what? I would love us not to have to have this argument any more. Whoever you are, your sexuality – or anything else about you – is not for me to judge. I am called to love you, to recognise Jesus in you, and to celebrate the fact that you were made in God’s image.
I believe I should expect a person of faith not to judge me on the basis of the things about me you might not approve of – I will never be perfect and God and I will constantly be talking about things he’d like me to address in my life. Those are a matter between me and God (who’s alone in holding the rights to judge me). Those are issues for me to address with Him, and in the context of a loving (that word is fundamenal) community of accountability and support.
When I look at my own life, I have enough areas where I need to consider “Is this God’s best for me?” without judging others. If this issue is SO huge, how come Jesus never spoke about it?
For what it’s worth, my personal take is that I think probably a gay relationship would not be God’s best for me. I recognise too that my views on things change over time as my relationship with God deepens. I’m lucky in a way, because I’ve never had to wrestle with this issue as a question for me personally.
But really what I’d love for us to get back to is this: the most important thing is that the Gospel is one of love, grace and peace, not of division and judgment. I loved this post by Unseen Disciple on just those themes:

Grace and peace.

The fear and hate instigated by fear has got to stop.
This child is one of many reasons to continue to educate EVERYONE.

Thanks for this post.
Humanity has a lot of work to do.
It’s all because those people are stupid…
Uneducated and lonely…
That’s all I can think of…

GAY TAX REVOLT – we’re just killing time until then…..
Sigh,
Our youth are homeless and committing suicide at senseless rates and he just wants to talk about genetics.
What a noble agenda these anti gay’s have.
Nice comment locallez, thanks for dropping in and weighing in!
Thank you DM for your thoughtful commentary on this topic. I love Bon’s blog and will go check out that post you reference.
PS- it was a good one.
Hey Lea…yes… the fear and hate definitely DO need to stop! Humanity does have so far to go! And thank you so much for the excellent post you pointed me to.
Hey Laurie… I do agree that a lot of the ignorance has to do with lack of education, or maybe more than that the early education kids receive TO discriminate. May it change! And let it begin with me. Luvs and {HUGS}
Thank you for the reminder John! I sure hope change can become a reality!
EXACTLY Rebecca! He missed the WHOLE point to the queries in my post. I’m glad you got the heart of the matter!
Although I am just beginning my journey with identifying myself as bisexual, as a fat woman, I understand that kind of hatred. Studies have been done that parents would abort children if they knew they were going to be fat. Hitler-esque people think that fat people don’t deserve to live.
Now while some of my choices in life have led me to be large, some of it has been out of my hands.
I continue to distance myself from mainstream Christianity because of the hatred. I see nothing of Christ in the way they act.
Very glad to have found you on Twitter and now here. Blessings to you!
headacheslayer… I am so grateful for this comment! I agree with “I see nothing of Christ in the way they act.”
Blessings to you!
